Re: First Time Visit to the GyneFrom: Joy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 15 Feb 2002 14:48:55 -0600 (CST)
I had my first trip to the gyne when I was 18 and was very nervous, but I had a great doctor which eased my nervousness. Due to various moves I have had I have had 4 different doctors, and I must say the experience is all in the doctor. The ones I had usually have a consultation with you at first in a very comfortable office--their office and they allow you to ask questions and express concerns and get to know you in a personal way. After that you may go to the examination room and usually be given either a big sheet or two separate items that keep you completely covered. Unfortunately you have to get completely nude. That, I think is the most uncomfortable situation. They check everything with the sheet covering up as much as possible. If you are a virgin, the actual exam may hurt just a bit, but only a bit. Just be as relaxed as possible. The exam is actually pretty quick and not a long drawn out process. Hope this helps. You do need to get it done. I know several women who have been diagnosed with abnormal paps in their early 20's and have to be monitored. Joy
