Regarding a Previous AnswerFrom: Alexa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 17 Jan 2002 18:42:08 -0600 (CST)
In a message posted on November, 13, 2000, Dr. Harvey S. Marchbein stated the following: "Side effects with new pills may take a while to clear up. Another option is some of the lower dose pills that have been shown to be better for acne than than Ortho-Tricyclen. One might be Alesse. At a lower dose, the major complaint is breakthrough bleeding but that clears up on most women and the other side effects are usually nil. Hope this helps and write back anytime for more information. HSM" He suggests that Alesse has been shown to be better for acne than Ortho Tri Cyclen. Is this true? I was on Alesse and had a clear face...on Ortho, my face has acne, even though Ortho advertises for clear complexions...Should I go back on the Alesse? If I do switch will the lower levels of estrogen in Alesse, when compared to Ortho, create any problems. Also, since the progestin in Alesse is an older one than norgestimate, will this be less effective for acne? Lastly, if I do go back on Alesse, is there any way to get rid of body acne, on the neck, back, and chest....I am allergic to many things, such as erythromycin and clindymydin.
