Hi Liz:

I'm not a doctor, but I thought I'd respond. It is completely normal to be unsure about your first gyn visit. Ask your friends and relatives who they go to or ask at a women's clinic for a recommendation. You are at the perfect age for your first gyn exam, and although some women do have trouble with inserting a tampon due to dryness, I think you should be checked out. If you are nervous, just tell the Dr. and s/he will be very gentle and will explain things to you. Please visit http://www.firstvisit.org/ for more info. I hope this helps. Best wishes.
