I am 21 years old and have always had irregular periods about 3-6 mths. apart sometimes more. Anyway I was doing some research and was getting kinda of concerned that maybe I could have a thyriod problem (I am about 20 lbs overweight) or maybe ovarian cysts. I went to my gyno with symptoms: irregular periods, when I do have them extremly painful and heavy and last about 8 or 9 days, this past year being emotional(ex. depressed, crying for no reason). I have had a wonderful year with college and work so nothing bad has happend this past year. So she prescribed birth control to regulate. I felt as if I wasn't listened to so I talked it over with my PCP. He was concerned so he ordered an ultrasound every thing came back fine (Can unltrasounds pick up scarring if I were to have had a cyst at one time?) and he took blood for 2 months. First month thyriod was a little high. Second month I had a period before he took blood that sample came back normal. He said it's hard to pin point this types of problems. He said that I should try to loose weight and also not to take the birth control pills because they can sometimes hide the real problem....I do want to have children many, many years from now and I was wondering what my chances would be later in life of concieving and should I just drop the issue and see if the problem fixes itself?
