A... I've never had kidney stones, but know of those that have, and it is painful (as if you needed me to tell you!). One of my friends had Lithotripsy done. You are emmersed in a tub of water and electrical shock waves are passed through the water to break up the stones. You ARE sedated for this. If stones are a recurring problem for you, your MD will look for possible causes. For my friend, he had a high level of calcium, and has to avoid anything dairy (milk, cheese, ice cream, etc.). He has been told to drink as much water as you can stand...the more the better. Sometimes stones will pass, but not all the time, and procedures such as lithotripsy are performed. Have you had a IVP done to look at your urinary tract? If your PCP hasn't had one done, I am sure the Urologist will. This will allow him to see if there are any problems in your kidneys, ureters, and bladder. I hope this helps. Let me know if I can help further.
