Now, about methods to avoid: I assume you mean methods OTHER than the Pill, the condom, gel/foam etc.? There are plenty of websites on those - do a quick search. For a "biological" way, try Fertility Awareness. It teaches you to observe your cycle and know it's "dangerous" and when it's "safe". It takes a lot of discipline, but it's well worth it. For this, and also to read up on achieving pregnancy, try to get the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. It is extremely informative.
