I experienced depression for the first time that felt "chemical," I just did not feel like myself. After a year of therapy (and 6 months of Prozac), and little improvement, I decided to go off the pill. Within a month I felt "normal" again. It was amazing and I'm grateful to be out of the dark hole. I don't understand how clinicians can say, "it's not the pill." It's a hormone. Chemical balance is being manipulated and I'm surprised there is not more research to explore the relationship between sex hormones and "mood hormones" like seratonin.
