Options For AmmenorheaFrom: Julie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 11 Jul 2001 18:33:11 -0500 (CDT)
I am a 23 year old woman who recently went off of the pill in November 2000. After going off of the pill I had a light period in December 2000. In January 2001 my period lasted only 1 day. I had no period from then until I saw my doctor on May 24, 2001. I was tested for high prolactin levels, liver problems, and hypothyroidism. Those tests and my pap smear came back normal. He gave me a perscription for three 13 day rounds of Provera 10 mg. I took the Provera and had a period on June 2-June 8. However, at this time I noticed I was losing some of my hair and was getting facial hair on my upper lip. By July 11, 2001 I still had not started my period and I called my doctor to ask him if there was something else that may help instead of the Provera. He told me that my only options were to take the second round of Provera or have a D&C. Are these truly my only options? Also, what might be causing my ammenorhea? Thank you, Julie
