Birth Control and Breast CancerFrom: Angela (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 9 Jul 2001 20:54:34 -0500 (CDT)
I am 19 years old and two months ago was placed on Orthotricylin to ease cramps. I am a virgin and have a family history of breast cancer. My grandmother died when she was 42 years old. I expressed my worries about going on the pill since I did not need it to avoid pregnancy; however, my OBGYN assured me that breast cancer was not a side effect and that it actually decreased the estrogen levels in your body. I have always been very worried about breast cancer, and recently my breasts have been aching terribly and feel very lumpy. Would you suggest that I not take these pills since I am abstinent? Would getting off of these pills affect my body in a negative way? Thank you.
