20years old - menopause - infertilityFrom: Sara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 21 Jun 2001 01:03:56 -0500 (CDT)
I'm 20 years old, I have only had 2 periods since I was 15 years old, when consulting 3 different physicians I was told that this was probably due to a traumatic event or stress and it should correct itself and if it didnt by the time I was 18 I should consider it serious and come in for a check up. Well it didnt correct itself so I went back to my doctor when I was 18 and she did blood work, and when it came back she told me that my hormone levels were in "menopausal" levels. I was on birth control and it made me sick. I've had pains in my abdomen and went to the ER one night and they did an extensive ultrasound and found nothing wrong. So now I know that nothing appears wrong, yet my hormone levels are telling my body I'm going through menopause and I can't get any real answers out of my doctor or the 2nd opinion except for its all stress related and that there is nothing they can do, they also seem reluctant to discuss any of this with me due to my age(I live in a small town). I don't have medical insurance and I can't afford a specialist or really regular doctors appointments which has led me here. My husband and I would like to have a baby eventually but I'm guessing from the small amounts of information I'm getting from my Dr. that I can't do so. Will I ever be able to have children and if so what should or could I do to help us concieve a child? Is what I'm being told is wrong with me something common or what should I do?
