normal bumps?From: Carrie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 18 Jun 2001 01:38:35 -0500 (CDT)
Is it normal to have abnormal skin (exhibiting both raised flesh and "pearly" white pigment discoloration) in the upper inner folds between the labia majora and the labia minora? The described skin is limited to that area; no bumps or discoloration anywhere else in the genital area. The skin is not moist, rough, or irregular. Rather, it is smooth, painless, and does not itch. The described skin is only evident when the labia are spread very wide and a mirror held close; additionally, it is present (although less so) on the skin just superior to the clitoral hood and spreads 3/4" down each 'side' as well, nearly symmetrically. I have read information about HPV, and I wonder if what I describe is normal or an indication of genital warts--or another STD. Am I just being paranoid? I am sexually active but always use protection. I do, however, understand that HPV infection is common despite protection and that visual appearance is highly varied. Thank you.
