low dose birth control and weight gainFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 2 Jun 2001 06:35:21 EDT
I am 30 years old and have avoided birth control for a decade due to my fears of weight gain. I already yo-yoed alot of the years. I decided my cramps were to severe to ignore any longer so I tried Alesse. I didn't notice a problem with weight gain, but still had PMS about 3 weeks out of the month. I was depressed despite being on Anti-depressants (although I didn't always remember to take all of the doses). My doctor switched me to LoestrinFe/120. I have only been on them a short time but already feel the breast tenderness and weight gain coming on. If I gain weight, it won't matter that my PMS may subside because I will be depressed from being fat. It seems to be a catch 22. What is the best low dose pill for lack of weight gain and irritability and depression? I am 5 ft tall so 5lbs of weight gain or more really shows on me. What about Mercette or Berlex? Help :( Shirley
