Emily,

when done right, anal sex doesn't hurt, or at least not enough to deter you from having it ;-). That said, not everybody likes it, and it's absolutely fine to be one of those who don't.

Now, the physical details: Does it hurt when you try (very slowly) to put a (well-lubed!) finger into your anus? Do you have blood on your toilet paper or on your stools? You mentioned that bowel movements hurt: You ought to see a doctor - you might have hemorrhoids or an anal fissure (a small tear that gets irritated or infected). I had a similar problem and suffered immensely, and it took a few weeks to get it fixed, but now everything is as it should be.

It is somewhat embarrassing to show that part of your body to a doctor, but believe me, they've seen it all (and worse), and they do get paid for it. :-)
