Blighted Ovum that won't abortFrom: Sarah (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 23 May 2001 14:03:31 -0500 (CDT)
Hi. I'm 17 and I thought that myself and my boyfriend of 2years became pregnant while using contraceptives (just so that you know we're responsible), and technically conception must have occured because I've been missing my period since mid-March. I've visited my doctor whom I cannot reach now. She sent me for 2 preg tests (urine and blood) 49 days after 'conception' and both have come back negative. My doctor suggested that I might (sort of a glimmer of hope) have blighted ovum, which is when the embryonic sac attaches to the uterine wall, but no embryo develops inside (usually resulting from chromosomal abnormalities). I've read lots about this, but only what I can find out about women who have trouble concieving because this is their type of miscarriage... Now, I haven't miscarried yet, and I was wondering if I should let this go... I haven't been able to reach my doctor and I might not get the chance for another week. I would now be 10 weeks along. How does this affect my health? Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?
