Dear Scared,
as someone who's been there, let me tell you that a rectal exam is not
so bad. Just tell your Dr. that if s/he intends to do this, to give
you fair warning, and when s/he does it, exhale sharply. This helps
your muscles relax, and as long as you don't clamp down, it will be a
curious or weird sensation, but not painful.
