Dear Robin and Claudia, This morning, I went to see a GI suggested by my family's PCP. My folks live out on the west coast in San Diego. I attend school on the east coast in the NJ region. The doctor saw me at his office and just had that magic touch, you know. He put me completely at ease and spent nearly two hours going through all the details. First, Robin was totally right, he said that the US clearly indicates surgery and the CT of my abdomen is labeled "unremarkable" which both of us laughed at (lol, medical lingo really knows how to make a woman feel special!) He said that I had an advanced case of the problem with hundreds of small stones and several large ones, but thats natural because 1/4 women and 1/8 men develop this problem, especially with the irregular eating habbits of students. First he wrote a long letter to my school where I'm on scholarship. My dad was on the speakerphone through out most of it from San Jose. One of the problems I had was that I felt so utterly alone, in a strange city, not really knowing anyone except a handful of college friends who know as much about medicine as me. Nil. He drew a blood specimen for ruling out any kind of infection and to get a more up to date hemo set and then explained the process, almost echoing Robin's experience word for word. He said that the doctor at one of the local large community hospitals was misinformed or just didn't take the time to explain things properly. I have a lowered level of hemoglobin, which means clotting is a problem. Doing it the old way would only cause a huge amount of bleeding, plus the modern methods of cortirization (sp) are fine. I'm not a hemophiliac, so I should be OK. He also gave me some awesome news!! <cont>
