irregular heart beats,PCOS,and birth controlFrom: Leslie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 6 Mar 2001 21:06:34 -0600 (CST)
This past summer I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome, a non-functioning pituitary adenoma, and insulin resistance. I do see an endocrinologist, but the travel is 4 hours one way to see him. I go to my PR for check-ups and emergencies. A couple of weeks ago while at work I started have severe chest pain, shortness of breath and my heart was pounding out of my chest but not speeding. Since I work in a school I went to the school nurse who then sent me to the ER. I'm only 23 years old and I thought it was odd to have these symptoms. My EKG at the hospital came back normal, but the ER doc was not satisfied. He sent me to see my PR who then ordered a 24 hour halter monitor (24 hour heart monitor). I am still waiting for those results, and still having the same problems. What could be the cause of these episodes?I don't feel stressed or like I'm having panic attacks. Can this have something to do with my extremely high insulin levels or the pituitary adenoma or related to PCOS in any way? My PR is not at all educated with PCOS or the signs and symptoms. It worries me that he will miss something due to this. I did tell him I would try to come up with some medical journals or information, but I can't seem to find anything relating PCOS and irregular heart beats. In fact, the information I have found on PCOS I don't seem to even understand. My other question has to do with birth control. My options are very limited since I want something short term (10 months) and non hormonal. What are my options in that area?
