Re: unanswered ?s on birth control and examsFrom: Gina (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 4 Mar 2001 17:50:06 -0600 (CST)
Hi, if you are in college, you can probably have an exam at your health center free of charge. They will also be able to give you advice on birth control, and maybe check out whatever is wrong with your irregular periods. I know my university health center is pretty good, and their exam was exactly like the ones that I have at my regular gynecologist's. Regarding how long it takes for the pill to be effective: As far as I know, you can start on any given day of your cycle. The difference is that if you start on the first day of your period, you are protected for your first cycle already (with most brands), and if you start on some other day, you aren't safe until you have gone through the first pack. In any case, consider condoms. Yeah, they aren't fun, but they work, and as an extra, you won't have to live with the wet spot on your sheet or leakage the next day (Oh the fun sex brings you :-).
