PLEASE HELP! Anyone with knowledge about Amniotic Fluid Embolism?

I have a 30-year-old cousin who suffered AFE during C-section on December 21, 2000. The baby is fine and healthy. She spent a couple of weeks in ICU and now is out of ICU. A tracheotomy was performed and she was breathing on her own for a while. Lately, she has been placed back on the respirator at night time, since the physicians have found her not breathing when she is sleeping. She was for a while reacting to comments and showing emotions, even following people and things with her eyes. Lately, she just stares. Her extremities are so stiff that the therapist is having trouble moving them. She has developed what I believed are bed sores on her feet and a "bump" on one of her legs. She is in a private hospital in PR, and although a tiny island, physicians are really good and competent (meaning is no 3rd World quality). I have tried to get information about the aftermath of AFE but have been unsuccessful. Can someone help? What can we expect to happen? Is her attitude or condition normal?

I will appreciate any information anyone can provide, as my family is growing desperate, especially my aunt (her mother).

Thank you and God bless,
