10 yo PMS?From: Lea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 19 Feb 2001 21:18:52 -0600 (CST)
My 10 year old daughter is in the early stages of puberty, she has begun developing breast buds and for a little more than a year has been experience cyclic episodes of headaches, fatigue and territorial behavior. The headaches have now ceased but the fatigue remains and the territorial behavior has now been replaced by some pretty vicious mood swings making living with her more than a little difficult. I have searched but all the information on PMS is geared toward menstruating women, what is there that I can do to help her through these periods while maintaining my own sanity and some semblance of peace in the household. I have sat with her and explained to her what is going on (at a time when it is not actually happening, I value my hearing)and she seems to understand well enough that this is all a normal part of growing up and is looking forward to all the changes she will be going through but that one day each month there is no talking with her. She is physically active (martial arts) and that does help. Any other suggestions? I have made an appointment with her Ped. but can't get in until late next month.
-- Thanks in advance!
