hormone testing for 17 yr oldFrom: Shelley (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 Jan 2001 21:17:48 -0600 (CST)
I have a 17 year old daughter that I suspect has a hormone imbalance of some kind. In the past year, she's had excessive facial hair growth on the upper lip and now it's under the chin and along the sides of her cheeks. She's getting electrolysis treatments for that. She is a gifted student who has started feeling blue and having difficulty making herself complete her school work. I believe this goes way beyond the typical "teenage angst" and really want to help her. I took her to the pediatrician who suggested more sleep, better food and a regular routine. I am going to call and request hormone testing but would like to know exactly what tests should be performed. Although I have insurance, I'll pay any amount of money to figure out what's going on here. She has been tested for mono (negative) and did have a bout of pnemonia in January of 2000 which really seemed to be the start of all this school work business. Any insights you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
