Intramural Fibroids

Hello. I am a 20 year old woman who, two years ago, was diagnosed as having an intramural fibroid. I have been on a variety of pills and am most likely headed for surgery within the next year. Being a teenager at the time, it took one year, and a series of three doctors, before anyone figured out that more was wrong than simply a teenager with irregular periods. My current doctor says the others missed it because most fibroids occur in women in their premenopausal stage. I am wondering how prevelent this condition is in younger women? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!
