This has been a recurrent thread on the other forums, especially the women's health forum. To see a large number of responses, you should do a search there. Having said that, I have to tell you that it is the person, not the gender of the person. I realize that as a male GYN, I have an iron in this fire, but the simple truth is that every woman is looking for a doctor who will treat her with dignity and compassion, who will take her needs and desires seriously, and who will take the time to educate her about her health needs. The ability to do these things are not unique to one gender or the other. There are jerk doctors, and there are non-jerk doctors, and I have not been able to tell the difference just by their gender (or age, or color, or religion for that matter). My own wife, a GYN herself, would be the first to tell you that I am the more compassionate of the 2 of us, as she tends to have a "well get over it" approach to things. Prejudging a person based on their genetalia is foolish.
