birth control pills and high blood pressureFrom: Julianna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 23 Oct 2000 11:41:41 -0500 (CDT)
I have been on birth control pills for 3 1/2 years. Triphasal, Estrostep and recently Ortho Tri Cyclen. I have never picked the pill I have taken because I have gone to a clinic because I did not want my parents to know I was on the pill. Recently I found out that I have high blood pressure at a recent doctor visit. I have been monitoring it at home at it has been 130/85 - 145/100. I am not overweight, I am 100lbs and 5 feet tall. I know that the pill can cause HBP. HBP also runs in my dad's side of the family. I am worried because I do not want HBP and I do not want to get pregnant. I am 22 and have been in the same relationship for three years and i plan on the relationship lasting forever. Should I go off the Pill? Should I take a blood pressure medicine with the pill? What other successful forms of birth control are available to me?
