Questions about surgeryFrom: Emily (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 11 Oct 2000 22:36:07 -0500 (CDT)
I posted several weeks ago about bleeding alot after my 1st attempt to have intercourse. I went to the Dr. and was told that an atery had been torn. OK...bleeding was stopped and a hymenectomy has been scheduled. Also in addition to the bleeding problem the doctor found two masses in my breasts. One on each side. After an ultrasound and with my family history (mon had breast cancer at 40 yoa.. I am now 25) the surgen has opted to remove both masses(hopefully on the same day as the hymenectomy if scheduling permits). Now I'll get to my questions.. 1) is it normal to tear arterys during intercourse and if so will it happen again...this would not be a good thing since it was pretty major artery and I bled so much I passed out. 2) How unconfortable should I expect to be after the sugery?...Can I expect it to be more unconfortable than the cauterization of the artery..(Lord I hope not it liked to have killed me) and 3)Will the breast surgery be painful afterwards (the surgen said something about pain meds) and what kind of scaring will it leave. Right now I am scheduled to take several days off work should I plan to be out longer?? Sorry for so many questions I just get kinda freaked out when I start thinking about surgery and forget to ask these things. Thank you so much in advance for considering my questions. This is wonderful service that you do!
