UTI's...not very fair!

I just became sexually active recently, and even more recently have been diagnosed with a UTI. I know its caused by my sexual activity, but I am wondering how common it is to be affected by UTI's... Furthermore, ways to prevent them in the future (I don't want to be on meds forever...)?? I also suffer from painful periods and am on a combination of NSAIDS and birth control.

Furthermore, I suffer from rather painful intercourse. How common is this and are all these signs that my body is not quite ready for sex? I'm 18 at the moment, and I am wondering if sex will become less discomfortable as I age. Is there any ways to make it less uncomfortable?

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions!!!
