Re: Going to the gyno after a bad experienceFrom: Robin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 17 Aug 2000 21:44:08 -0500 (CDT)
I am so sorry that you had to go through something so awful Jinni. I had a bad experience, but nothing compared to you. I was in the ER, with what turned out to be a very bad Kidney Infection that had me hospitalized for two weeks. While I was being evaluated in the ER, the ER Dr. did an exam, and I swear, the speculum was big enough for a horse! I screamed and cried, and I too bled for several days. I never in my life had that happen to me. My own OBGYN came to see me the next day (It was my internist who sent me to the hospital...), and he made a complaint to the Administrator FOR ME (of course, the administrator followed up with me). I hope that you made a formal complaint as well. What about having your sister go to the GYN with you? The Dr., at least any I have been to, always have a nurse present in the room, for your protection, and theirs. If your sister can't go, what about a good friend? Also, when you go, talk to the Dr. and let him/her know what happened to you, and let them know how afraid you are. I am sure, when they are armed with the information, they will take even more care to be gentle. Good luck, and let us know how it goes, okay??
