Hi Samantha! It is not unusual to have kinda rough periods the first year or so. However, with mom having same trouble it makes me wonder about endometriosis. This simply means when you have periods, some of the blood kinda "backflows" through your fallopian tubes. It can cause small areas of implanted tissue on the tubes, ovaries, outside of uterus, etc. This can make periods even more painful. This condition is usually diagnosed by laprascopic surgery (and NO I am not suggesting you need any surgery). Often it is helped with certain birth control pills or even depo. Have you tried birth control pills? Have you been to a good gynecologist? Any history of any STD?
