Breakthrough BleedingFrom: Ara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 16 Jul 2000 14:46:20 -0500 (CDT)
I am 23 years old and I have been on birth control pills for about 4 years. I started with Ortho-Tricyclen, but it caused breast tenderness and moodiness so my doctor switched me to Desogen. I have been on Desogen 28-day cycle for close to 2 years now. Last year I had breakthrough bleeding that turned into a full blown period. I called my doctor and he said to start a new pack after my period was over and it was probably nothing. Well, this week it started again. At first I thought I was getting sick, I had flu-like symptoms. I had horrible headaches and terrible moodiness (mainly depression). I am still having some headaches, but I am getting lower back pain and cramps (just like regular PMS) I have started bleeding consistently now. I have always had regular periods since my menarche at age 13. Can you offer any insight as to why this bleeding is happening? I haven't taken any other medications except for the usual aspirin and my multi-vitamin.
