question about the pill and cramps

I posted this on another board but this one seems to be more appropriate because it has similar types of questions! Ever since I first started my period when I was 13 I have had very bad cramps and a pretty heavy flow, when I was about 18 I was talking to my mom about going on the pill she said that it also will help with the cramps and such, i've been on alesse for 2 years now and its done nothing at all, i still have bad cramps (sometimes they actually make me feel sick to my stomach...pamprin, midol etc doesnt work) and my period is still heavy and it still lasts about 7 or 8 days, all my friends who are on the pill say theirs is signifigantly shorter and lighter, I know alesse is a low dose pill (the doc put me on that cause I tend to get a pretty bad headache on the first or second day of my period she said it'd be better to try a low dose pill) I am just wondering if yous think a higher dose or something might help? I know its different for everyone I just wanted to see if it was likley that it would before I bother making an appointment with my doctor! Sorry this is so long but thanks for any input!!
