Committed an oops -- questions about emergency contraception (Plan B)From: Michaela (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 29 Dec 1999 12:44:12 -0600 (CST)
Had an "oops" last night around midnight...I'm on cycle day 11, had sex using condoms and spermicidal gel (Conceptrol -- the single-use applicator kind) but the condom slipped off and we didn't notice. Me being paranoid, I went to get emergency contraception. They gave me "Plan B" (levonorgestrel) but failed to answer a few of my questions to my satisfaction. Namely: 1. On this particular drug, should I expect my period at the normal time or sooner? 2. On this particular drug, should I expect a normal period or a heavier/lighter one? 3. On this particular drug, can I expect my cycle to resume normally after I get my period? 4. On this particular drug, what will happen to the usual signs of fertility that I'm used to tracking? I use cervical mucus, position and firmness to keep close tabs on my inner workings while having protected sex (both as fertility and infertility indicators), so I just know it will make me crazy if those signs all get loused up by the hormones in these pills. (Indeed, this is why I've avoided the pill in the first place.) Here's hoping I don't have to do this again. ouch. Thanks, Michaela
