Re: Birth ControlFrom: JHC (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 21 Dec 1999 20:53:32 -0600 (CST)
Ovulation usually occurs approximately 14 days before the start of your period. The shot that you are referring to is called Depo Provera. It is given to women every three months and it is an excellent form of birth control. It does not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases, so condoms are always a good idea. Other forms of birth control are diaphrams, and cervical caps. When used correctly (correctly is the key word), with a spermicidal jelly they offer a good means of birth control, but again, they will not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases. IUD's and Norplant (if it is still on the market) are also good forms of birth control, but they require a doctor to place them. If you have a health dept. or planned parenthood clinic in your area, they can provide you with information regarding birth control, and protection for sexually transmitted diseases. Be safe.
