I am very thin, too. Okay, not so much now that I've gotten preg, but before. I got to thinking about this over the summer and wondered if maybe I was perhaps *too* thin, or maybe just underfat. I was 5'6" and weighed 115-117. People always guessed that I weighed at least 10 pounds less. What got me wondering is that it was impossible trying to find clothes that fit--I was down to a ladies size 2-4! I did some reading that a woman needs to have at least 19% bodyfat, especially for fertility and normal menstrual cycles. You say that you are 17.3% bodyfat now and you exercise. The exercise is great, but in my own personal opinion, I think that trying to lower your bodyfat to only 14.3% is just too much! I realize that it is considered normal or better for athletes to have lower fat percentages, but that number just doesn't sound healthy for a woman who wants to conceive. You even said yourself that you don't think you would look any better. If I were you, I wouldn't do it. Then I was told my goal for the next six months to be at 14.3% body fat and they'll test me again. My question is: Should I be trying to reach this goal? Would I be healthier? I honestly do not think I would look better.
