Systemic Lupus and PregnancyFrom: Terry (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 17 Dec 1999 17:09:15 -0600 (CST)
We need some serious guidance here! Two years ago my wife was 6 weeks pregnant and took a turn for the worst. As it turned out, she was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus and Idiopathic Thrombocytopenis Purpura. We lost the baby in the early stages. We were made aware of the potential threat to my wife's health if she were to get pregnant again. We were also made aware of the proper timing and period of remission, before conception occurs. Well my wife is pregnant again and when we are suppose to be excited, we are very concerned. She just started taking her Plaquenil and Celexa again two weeks ago...and painkillers as needed (hydrocodone)and with the type of pain she feels every day, this is getting very tough. As a note, she had her spleen removed in July 99 for the ITP. We are going to contact a high risk OBGYN close to us...but in the meantime...we need to know if there are any remedies for severe pain that accompanies moderate lupus sufferers? Please respond asap.
