You take an antibiotic as needed, but once you have it as I am told, you've got it forever. You just take antibiotics for flare-ups. If it is GBS, then you will likely need IV antibiotics when you go into labor with your next pregnancy. This is just to make doubly sure that the baby is healthy. Good luck! AM
