Bacterial InfectionFrom: Kris (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 14 Dec 1999 14:45:32 -0600 (CST)
Can anyone provide any insight as to what infection this might be? (My health insurance is through and HMO, so contacting the doctor for an answer is almost impossible.) I had a D&C on 10/19 for a missed abortion. In mid-November, during and exam for pelvic pain I had been (and still am) having, my doc took a sample of some discharge and after analyzing it, told me I had a slight infection and prescribed doxycycline for 10 days. I had another appt on 12/1, where he took a couple of cultures for various things. I just received a message from him saying that one of the bacteria he tested for was positive, so I'm back to taking doxycycline. I don't know if any of the following are symptoms of an infection, but here's what I'm experiencing: pelvic pain (very low, but centered), LARGE ammounts of milk-colored mucus (but it's a little thicker than water and has a slight odor), and occasional itching. Any clue as to what this might be? It's not a STD. Could this type of infection come from a D&C? Is there another medication that could be used other than doxycycline (or PCN; I'm allergic.) Any help anyone can give would be very much appreciated. I'm 25, and aside from losing two pregnancies this year, I'm in good health. Thanks, Kris
