AmenorrheaFrom: Holly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 7 Dec 1999 23:27:21 -0600 (CST)
Recently my Dr prescribed me 400 mg of Prometrium daily for 10 days to start my period as I have been without one for about 8 weeks. I am not pregnant, the amenorrhea is most likely due to my hypothyroid and just coming off regular birth control pills. My concerns are as follows: 1. I have been found "moderately positive" for IgG antibodies (I think the number was 72) and have been told this leaves me at a higher risk for blot clotting. In my information package it stated blood clotting was a risk. Should I be concerned about taking this medicine? 2. Are there any risks for waiting to let my body start cycling again on its own? 3. This doctor also prescribed Micronor for birth control as they are not wanting me to become pregnant again until my thyroid becomes stable and see if they can get these IgG antibodies out of my system. The doctor I am seeing is a GP that I have just started seeing and I have just had a really rough summer with my health (I lost a child at 26 weeks into the pregnancy due to my becoming septic) and have major troubles with estrogen based birth control pills and I guess I am really gun shy at any medication right now. Please forgive my going on and on. Thank you for your time.
