I belong to The Gerd Word and I just found out there was a warning on Propulsid sent to doctors in June 98' stating that severe cardiac arrhythmias have been reported in patients taking this drug, but that is not the worst............. there was a pamplet attached to the back of the bottle that I just pulled off today (now mind you no pamplet was on the other two bottles we already used for Joshua) and it reads as follows............ WHAT IS PROPULSID (cisapride)? PROPULSID is a medication intended only to treat the symptoms of nightime heartburn in ADULTS. WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT PROPULSID? PROPULSID may cause serious irregular heartbeats that may be fatal. AND THE BAD PART READS............... Quote: The safety and effectivness of PROPULSID in children younger than 16 years have not been demonstrated for any use. Serious adverse events, including death, have been reported in infants and children while being treated with PROPUSID. This is what was written in the pamplet on the bottle, it is dated 5/99!!!!!!!!! In the warning letter sent to doctors in June of 98 it reads............... Pediatric Use: Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established. Although causality has not been established, serious adverse events, including death, have been reported in infants and children treated with cisapride. Several pediatric deaths were due to cardiovascular events. A 3 month old died of sudden unexlained death will being treated with Propulsid and a one month old male infant received 2mg/kg of cisapride four times a day for 5 days. The infant developed third degree heart block and died. There have been 32 deaths of infants and children over the past 6 years. I am quite concerned about learning all this and am alittle outraged that Joshua's doctor never told us the risks associated with taking this medication let alone that it is intended only for adults, I don't know what to think or do about all this except to tell you that we have already taken him off of it and of course can't get ahold of his doctor who will not even be back until end of next week. Also it stated that it should not be taken with certain allergy medicines and she put him on the Zyrtec!!!!! I am at my wits end over this tonight! What do you all think about this?????? I would apprciate anyones input!!!!!!!! Thanks for listening ladeis.
