Shingles

I would like to add my experiences with Shingles to the latest posts.

I had my first incident across my back hip area, right or left I can't really remember. It was a blistering rash more or less in a line and documented by a physician. For a week or two before the rash broke out i had an aching sensation in this area.

For several years I had upper right abdominal pain (started before the above incident and continued afterwards) At one point I noticed that the pain was becoming more obvious and then I broke out with the same type of blistering rash from the front midline around my right side towards the back midline. This was also documented by my physician. As soon as this rash healed I no longer had right upper abdominal pain and never have had it again. I read in a medical textbook that there is such a thing as "rashless zoster infection" of one of the intercostal nerves that imitates gall bladder disease.

I don't know if it was just a coincidence that I had this right upper abdominal pain (I had it worked up, all negative results) and then had shingles in the same area. I did have two separate Shingles infections though, in two different areas. Both times the doctors were sure it was Shingles-a blistering rash more or less in a straight line on one side of my body.
