INFECTION AFTER LAPAROSCOPY

Hi there,

I don't think I can help with your questions, but I too, had this infection occur about 3-5 weeks post laparoscopy. My GYN was suprised, but said she had heard of it. I had no complications right after surgery, and had just started my Lupron therapy. (If you or someone you know has been on this drug and would like to read about the effects, visit our site at http://www.angelfire.com/ma/APAL)

Anyhow, I was in bed one morning and felt something strange on my stomach, like little needles in my incision area. I looked, and saw that there was a large bright lump with the consistency of a water balloon directly under my navel. After properly freaking out :-) as I had no idea that this could happen, I looked at it more closely. It was hot, about an inch or so long, and highly painful to the touch of my hand, clothes, etc. I was trying to reach my GYN, who, for the first time since I knew her, had taken the day off and gone out of town, so I was trying to get the stand-in on the page.

As I sat, I noticed it started to drain. I took my temp and noticed I had a mild fever as well. I cleaned it off, which nearly made me hit the ceiling in pain. I stuck some cotton in there, which was a big mistake painwise, as the drainage dried over and it got rather stuck. Anyhow they cleaned it off, didnt need any help with drainage as it was doing fine on its own. Took some antibiotics, and kept it clean...cleared up once but then came back another time. After that, it went away completely, but I was never sure what caused it. I do remember how painful and aggravating it was.

I am curious, though, why were they thinking it was a foreign body causing the infection? What type were they referring to? Also how large was the cyst, approximately?

Take care....and good luck with this!
