vaginal discharge

I have been experiencing a discharge with an odor and consistency that changes from time to time. Sometimes the discharge is very watery, thin, and colorless. sometimes it is very moucus like and white. The smell varies from a strong vinegar type smell to a less pungent odor that smells like well seasoned mashed potatoes. I made an appointment to see my ob/gyn, but she couldn't fit me in for another month. Do you have any idea what this could be?
