right cyst

Dr M:

I took your advice and saw the on-call doc today. Pelvic exam and ultrasound showed that the right ovary was enlarged, and that there was a small 18mm cyst on the ovary. She said it could be a follicle cyst and that I could be ovulating - and that so soon post op everything was still healing and more sensitive which could account for the bad pain. But for the past 10 years, I've always ovulated the middle of the month, regular as clock work. Could the surgery 2 weeks ago to remove the cystadenoma and left ovary have thrown me off?

Anyway, I'm to go back in two weeks for repeat pelvic and ultrasound. If it has not gone away and has gotten larger, we'll go from there - I guess back to the OR to remove it, given my now hx and the diagnosis of LMP (low malignant potential - stage 1). As much as I cringe at the thought of another OR trip, I'd much rather do that than risk losing this sole surviving ovary at the age of 33. Having a neoplasm grow so rapidly and so large really was a reality check on going to the doc when things don't feel right instead of justifying symptoms away.

Why couldn't ultrasound be more specific as to whether this was indeed a follicle cyst or not? Is that something that just time has to tell?

Anyhow, thanks for the advice to go on in. At least mentally I feel better, just knowing it's being watched so closely, and she suggested that I take Motrin and Darvocet together at the same time, along with using a moist heat gel pack to that area - and these seem to be working effectively.

Is there a big risk that this low malignant stuff can recurr on this opposite ovary that is remaining, or in any of the peritoneum tissue from the other side? I want to think that I'm pretty much "home free" with the surgery to remove the neoplasm and the ovary.

Thanks again!

Victoria
