chronic vulvar irritationFrom: Bess (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 29 Nov 1999 17:12:23 -0600 (CST)
I have had irritation near and around my clitoris for the past 4 years and it drives me crazy. That whole area is always red and if I wear pants with any seam in the crotch, it's uncomfortable. I love to cycle but I am extremely sore afterward and inflammed. The discomfort is more or less always there. I would appreciate any insight/help. When it began I was working outdoors doing hard physical work and sweating alot. The jeans/carharts I wore began to feel too irritating to the area and then I had a few infected hair folicles which were seen by a doctor. The irritation has never abated. I tried only wearing loose clothes, I saw a dermatologist, gynecologist, and several GP's and I feel like I've tried everything. I only use Dreft laundry detergent, only cotton underwear, and basis soap. I've tried an antibiotic (orally) in case there was some sort of infection. I have always had normal yearly paps. This year I returned to a gynecologist's office because it is so frustrating and I cannot give up hope for finding a way to relieve the irritation. He did a biopsy and it came back showing keratosis and chronic inflammation. I tried traimcinolone for a month but it didn't help and now he has prescribed me diflucan for up to a year. He believes there may be a lurking yeast infection. Ugh. Any information or insight would be greatly appreciated, I have all but given up my love of cycling and sex no longer feels good. I am 27 years-old and in otherwise excellent health. Thank you, thank you.
