Re: Vaginal Toneness Gone!From: janice (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 29 Nov 1999 16:09:45 -0600 (CST)
I can identify with your physical problem, the "lost" feeling. As we get older it's easier to lose muscle tone. The saying "if you don't use it, you lose it" is partly true here. You not having sex, plus your age, plus a weight gain may have contributed to your situation. I hope you have medical insurance. If you do, try to find a gyn-physical therapist. Check with local hospitals and inquire about their incontinence clinics. This is where you might find a therapist. Therapy using biofeedback can help you. It takes time, but if you really want results and work at it, it is the best way to go. Try to see about therapy ASAP because weak pelvic floor muscles can lead to uterine, bladder and rectum prolapse. Not to scare or upset you, just to inform you. Matter of fact, now is the time to get familiar with your own body. You should be aware of where your cervix is and be aware if it starts to hang lower in the body. Also, having weak pelvic floor muscles, don't lift heavy items, move heavy furniture. If you cough, try to tighten you pelvic floor muscles before the cough. You can also get some good information on kegals from yahoo. Most doctors say this is uncommon, especially for a woman your age. From my experience lately, I believe it's alot more prevalent then they would like to admit. Let me know if you need any more help. Good Luck.
