I'm 43 years old. Transvaginal ultrasound revealed that my uterus has grown dramatically in one year from 7 cm in length to 15.9 cm in length. Ovaries not visible on ultrasound -- completely obscured by fibroids. Have ovarian cancer history in one grandmother. Father died of colon cancer. (I receive annual GYN exams,mammograms and regular invasive colon exams because of my cancer fears.) Doctor has recommended total hysterectomy and ovary removal. I am having no symptoms. I feel great at this time. My doctor didn't believe me when I told him my periods were regular. No excess bleeding. Now I'm on Lupron. Have taken two doses a month apart (October 26, November 26) in preparation for abdominal "classic cut" surgery in January that I don't really want to have. Doctor said I will have to have vertical incision. I guess I feel too good to think I need surgery at this time. Have read conflicting reports about what I should do. Am going for second opinion. Any thoughts on the dangers posed by large fibroids. Doctor said my kidneys could be crushed.
