Re: VBAC with vertical incision?From: JHC (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 14 Nov 1999 15:23:04 -0600 (CST)
The type of incision that you are descrbing is called a "classical" incision. The choice to perform a classical incision is usually made in the event of an emergency. The physician is usually able to deliver the baby faster this way. If your baby was in distress the doctor, more than likely, made this type of incision to protect the well being of your baby. To my knowledge, and others that are out there reading this message, correct me if I am wrong, with that type of incision, VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) is not usually indicated. There are different types and severity levels of "emergencies" in childbirth. Your friends may have had different reasons for having C-Sections. A doctor's goal is to deliver a healthy baby, it sounds to me that your doctor did what he had to do to achieve that goal. Maybe you should schedule an appointment to speak with him face to face. Best of luck to you. JHC, R.N.
