Ascites

I can't seem to find the answer to a question I have about ascites. I know fluid can accumulate from a number of things, but if it were from cancer in the abdominal cavity, would it ever just suddenly clear up on its own without treatment? The reason I ask is that I had severe abdominal bloating a few months ago that made me look pregnant but it disappeared over a period of a couple of weeks. Along with the disappearance of the fluid I also lost about 10 lbs. I had a pelvic ultra sound last month that was normal. I just haven't been feeling "right" lately and wonder if I may have a serious condition that should be looked into further.
