What kind of infection is this???From: CK (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 1 Nov 1999 05:36:16 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I've posted before about having an odourous discharge. It seems to change as my cycle progresses, but it's always odourous, and always in moderate quantities. I have had this discharge for as long as I can remember, but when I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago, I thought that was the culprit, and that maybe this was normal for someone with PCOS. Also, I figured if it was abnormal then the doctor who did my pelvic exam would have noticed it and said something about it. That didn't happen...I've had two different doctors do pelvic exams and neither one has mentioned the odour. I've ruled out PCOS being the cause of this, but I'm wondering what it could be...vaginitis? Now there is a new twist to the story: I had been getting these sores around my underwear line and on my butt. At first I thought they could be either in grown hairs, or sores because the elastic in my panties was too tight. Then I noticed that I only got them when I had my period so I thought that maybe they were caused by the pads I was using. I had 2 or 3 over a one year time period...but then in August I got another once that was really big and sore. Since then, I've been getting at least one new one each week...often more than that. They are now getting further from my panty line so I'm wondering if they could be related to the vaginal infection? Maybe the bacteria is in my circulation now? I'm not sure. I'm trying to get in to see my doctor this week to do something about this...I really don't want to get another one...they leave horrible purple scars and I've already got about 15 scars on my legs from sores that have been there in the past. Probably everyone is thinking this must be an STD...but it can't be... the "S" is not part of the equation for me. I'm very embarrassed to see my doctor about this problem because when he asks how long the infection has been going on, I'll have to say "So long that I can't even remember not having an odour down there". Seriously, I've had it since puberty, but thought it was just part of being a woman. Now I"m realizing that women don't smell "down there"...and I don't want to either! I want to get rid of it...it is awful. I've tried using mild soaps, antibacterial soaps, ...but when I soap up, the smell gets overwhelming. Thanks in advance
