Hi Michelle,

I can't believe that they put you on Viactiv. Yes, they taste great, but they contain nonfat milk. Your baby will get the calcium it needs from your bones. By taking calcium it helps protect your bones.

Don't your prenatal vitamins have calcium in them? If so, how much? Can
you or do you use Lactaid tabs or milk. Some people with lactose
intolerance can tolerate fermented products like cottage cheese,
buttermilk, natural or aged cheese and yogurt with active cultures.

Are you drinking enough fluid? You need between 8-12 glasses of fluid (non-caffinated) per day. Sometimes not drinking enough fluid can contribute to kidney stone formation.

Is it possible that you are getting too much from supplements? The RDA for a pregnant woman is 1200 mg. Vitamin D is needed for absorption. If you are exposed to sunlight that should be enough. Is there any in the prenatal vitamin?

Are you a vegetarian? That would also make a difference. You will get some calcium from meat.

I am a registered dietitian. Pregnancy is not an area that I am terribly familar with. I hope this info helps you. If you have any questions, I will try to answer them.

Best wishes,

D.N.
