calcium supplement problemsFrom: Michelle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 1 Nov 1999 00:13:08 -0500
Hi, I am 24 weeks pregnant. My Ob has had me on pre-natal vitamins as well as calcium supplements- due to a server lactose intolerance- no milk, no ice cream no nothing like that. Up until last month there was no problem. Well, there might have been . I ended up with blood in my urine and a kidney stone- could that have been from the calcium (never had a single kidney problem before) Anyhow, since last month I have been getting very ill whenever I take the calcium suppliments. ( Projectile vomitting, severe stomach cramps and nausea) I have tried with and without food. Same result either way. She wants me to take them 3x a day ( 1500mg) I can't even get the one to stay down. I spoke with a new OB, new to the practice, she told me to try the new chocolate kind- Viatin. I have these now - I have taken 3 of these- spread out throughtout the day and seem to be heading in the same direction with them. The nausea is pretty intense and some stomach cramping- I feel like I will vomit but that has not happened yet. Is it possible that I could be allergic? ( Since birth of first child all is weird- I am allergic to Tylenol) What other choices do I have? Doesn't the baby need the calcium? I try to eat broccli as much as possible- to get some from it. Breakfast type foods are no help- I can't stand the site of eggs nor the smell of them cooking- right now. Any thoughts? Thank You!
